What is an ITIN?

An Individual Taxpayer Identification Number (ITIN) is a tax processing identifier issued by the Internal Revenue Service. ITINs are granted to individuals who need a U.S. taxpayer identification number but are ineligible to receive a Social Security Number (SSN).
